A Brief History
TCM originated in ancient China and has evolved continuously over millennia. Its foundational text, the Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine), was compiled around the 2nd century BCE and remains influential today.
Central to TCM is the concept of qi (vital energy) flowing through the body along pathways called meridians. When qi flows smoothly, the body is in a state of balance. TCM practitioners work to identify and address imbalances using a combination of modalities tailored to each individual.
Today, TCM is practiced worldwide and is recognized by the World Health Organization. In British Columbia, TCM practitioners and acupuncturists are regulated by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA), ensuring professional standards and patient safety.
