Dr. Reuven Freesman, D. TCM
Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine | Registered Acupuncturist
He/Him
Reuven’s practice focuses on adults and teens who primarily have concerns that fall into one (or more) of the following categories:
- Pain & Musculoskeletal Concerns:
- Acute injuries, chronic pain, back/neck/shoulder pain, headaches/migraines, tension patterns, nerve-type pain.
- Stress & Nervous System Concerns:
- Stress overload, nervous system dysregulation, sleep disruption, emotional strain, burnout, feeling “wired and tired.”
- Complex Chronic Conditions:
- Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, complex or recalcitrant pain presentations.
Reuven is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Registered Acupuncturist with over 20 years of clinical and teaching experience. He was a founding faculty member at Pacific Rim College, where he trained and mentored many practitioners now working in the field. Beyond working with students in preparation for licensing, he has also taught many post-graduate courses and workshops for practitioners, with a focus on pain treatment, pulse diagnosis, and Five Element acupuncture.
Reuven takes an integrative approach, recognizing that chronic pain is often influenced by factors such as nervous system load, stress, sleep, and emotional strain. He has developed a strong reputation for treating complex and challenging conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and persistent pain patterns.
Reuven frequently treats pain using channel-based and distal acupuncture approaches (working away from the site of pain). While this can look different from more locally focused treatments, many patients find it gentle and effective. Some people notice meaningful changes quickly, while others experience more gradual improvement as the body reorganizes over time.
Some patients come primarily for physical pain, while others seek support with stress, emotional regulation, or feeling more settled in their bodies. Reuven welcomes both, and works collaboratively to understand what each person’s system needs in order to shift.
Reuven previously taught Christina during her training and is pleased to be supporting her patients during her time away. His work emphasizes clear communication, individualized care, and helping people feel more at ease in their bodies.
Additional training and clinical strengths include (to name a few):
- Advanced pulse diagnosis: Especially useful for complex or multisystem conditions
- Channel-based acupuncture (including distal point strategies, mirroring and imaging systems): Gentle and effective approaches for pain treatment and nervous system regulation
- Channel palpation: Feeling the channels directly to diagnose and clear blockages.
- Treatment of acute, chronic, and complex pain
- Five Element / constitutional acupuncture: Especially helpful for psychological, emotional, and psycho-spiritual concerns
