Born and raised in Nanaimo, Dr. Julia Christensen, ND returns home with a deep sense of purpose and gratitude for the land and community that shaped her. With more than 25 years immersed in the study of the human body and the art of healing, her work is guided by a simple belief: the body holds extraordinary wisdom, and healing is a process of remembering one’s own wholeness.
Dr. Christensen’s practice is rooted in whole-person medicine—where physiology meets story, where lived experience shapes biology, and where symptoms are understood not simply as problems to solve, but as meaningful signals from the nervous system and the deeper self. Her care is grounded in a trauma-informed approach that honours the ways adversity and lived history can echo through the endocrine system, digestion, mood, sleep, pain, and the capacity to feel safe in one’s own body. Her first priority is to create a space where patients feel met, heard, and gently supported to move at a pace that is right for them.
She works closely with individuals navigating hormonal transitions, digestive imbalances, chronic stress, mood concerns, and the profound reshaping that occurs during peri- and post-menopause. Whether someone is experiencing anxiety, PMDD, insomnia, pain, thyroid imbalance, or the disorientation that comes with midlife transformation, she sees each concern as part of a larger story that deserves time, compassion, and careful listening.
Her therapeutic tools reflect both science and spirit: nutritional and lifestyle medicine, prescription hormones, botanicals, acupuncture, pharmaceutical prescribing, and evidence-informed supplements—woven together with presence, curiosity, and an understanding of how the nervous system unfolds toward healing when safety and relationship are at the centre.
Dr. Christensen welcomes new and returning patients for both virtual and in-person care in Nanaimo beginning January 5, 2026.
