Brian's Unique Approach: Gentle & Effective Solution for Pain, Anxiety, and Insomnia
Brian's journey to becoming an acupuncturist was a deeply personal one, shaped by his own struggles with chronic illness and anxiety. After finding profound relief through acupuncture for his own back pain, insomnia, and anxiety, he was driven to understand the science behind true healing.
This quest led him to bridge the gap between traditional Eastern and modern Western medicine. With over 11 years of experience in rehabilitation services at Private Physiotherapy Clinics, Richmond General and Vancouver General Hospital, Brian combines his background in physiotherapy with extensive training in Korean/Chinese Medicine, neuroscience, psychology, and functional rehabilitation from the US, Korea, and Canada.
Today, he offers a unique, comprehensive approach to his downtown Vancouver patients. He
utilizes a powerful combination of techniques including neuromuscular rehabilitation, advanced acupuncture methods like IMS (Dry Needling), Acupotomy (Fascia Needling), and Electro-Acupuncture, as well as specialized neurological methods—to address the root causes of pain and stress. This ensures a highly personalized and effective path to physical and mental wellness.
What is IMS (Dry Needling)?
IMS, or Intramuscular Stimulation, is a modern acupuncture technique specifically designed to
treat chronic muscle pain. A very fine needle is inserted into a tight, knotted muscle (often called a “trigger point”) to make it involuntarily twitch and then relax. This helps release deepseated tension and knots that are difficult to reach with other methods, providing quick and effective relief from persistent muscle pain.
What is Acupotomy?
Acupotomy is a specialized technique that uses a unique needle with a tiny, flat tip. It is designed to carefully release chronic pain by freeing up scar tissue, adhesions, and “stuck” fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). By targeting these restrictions, Acupotomy can restore movement, reduce chronic stiffness, and address the root cause of stubborn pain that has not responded to other treatments.
What is Electro Acupuncture?
Electro-Acupuncture is a therapy where a gentle, low-level electrical current is passed between
a few acupuncture needles. The current feels like a mild buzzing or tapping sensation and is always adjusted to your comfort level. This technique amplifies the effects of traditional acupuncture, providing stronger and longer-lasting pain relief, reducing inflammation more effectively, and helping to stimulate nerve and muscle function.
